This article analyzes the main economic reasons that contemplate the treatment given for the Executive concerning the electric utilities to be able to acquire electric energy of companies they tied or to destine energy for them produced for attendance of its captive consumers, the call autosupplement or self-dealing. The essential conclusions of the research are: (i) the Executive adequately does not distinguish relative the secular strategies to the subject, leading the analyses of short term that can affect the expansion of offer of electric energy of long stated period; (ii) the option for the vertical integration stops backwards, on the part of the electric utilities, requires the improvement of the Institutional Environment and not it exclusion of this form of contractual arrangement. This improvement preliminarily is delineated by the research. The New Institutional Economy was used as referential microeconomic for the development of the research.
